Established during British rule in the late 1800s and early 1900s, Richards Town was named after F. J. Richards, former president of the Cantonment municipality .

Situated just north of Bangalore East Railway Station and bound by Pulakeshi Nagar, Fraser Town, Cooke Town, and St. Thomas Town .
