The Haji Ali Dargah is a mosque and dargah located on an islet off the coast of Worli in the Southern part of Mumbai. Near the heart of the city proper, the dargah is one of the most recognisable landmarks of Mumbai. Sitting on a jetty in the Arabian sea, this spectacular white mosque was built to honor and house the remains of the Muslim saint Haji Ali.

Worli was one of the original seven islands that constituted the city of Mumbai. Although primarily a fishing village, the Worli Fort, a British fort that is now in ruins, is located there. Worli has a mosque, the Haji Ali Dargah, on a rock in the sea, which was connected at low-tide to the island by a natural causeway. The island of Worli was connected to the main island of Bombay in 1784, with the completion of the Hornby Vellard. The Hornby Vellard is now known as Lala Lajpat Rai Road.

The Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Mumbai City Museum is the oldest museum in Mumbai. Situated in Byculla East, it was originally established in 1855 as a treasure house of the decorative and industrial arts, and was later renamed in honour of Bhau Daji.

Right on the busy JJ Road, opposite JJ hospital, I never imagined what this old building contain. Accompanied by a Jew friend from out-of-town, made me realise that this almost 150 year old building has fully functional beautiful synagogue. The interiors are simply artistic. The trust has been offering accommodation and meals to Jew visitors free, or with small nominal donation. Great place indeed.
