Doddakannelli ‘s history dates back to the era of Vijayanagara empire. It was given as a jagir ( royal gift) to a local artist named as Muniappa Reddy. Muniappa being a generous , kind hearted person allotted the land to local farmers for their livelihood. This stone script was found near doddakannelli lake bed during an excavation.
