The most intriguing of all is the ‘Weeping Willow’, named so because of its drooping branches and leaves which give a weeping impression. • Observatory Hill- Located near Chowrasta Square in Darjeeling, Observatory Hill is a popular tourist spot in the town to observe the panoramic views of snow-clad peaks, including the Mount Kanchenjunga. As taxis and vehicles are not allowed in the area, you have to walk uphill for 15 minutes to reach the top of the Hill. It also has a temple at its summit called Mahakal Temple which was originally occupied by Bhutia Busty Monastery. The production of Tibetan handicraft like woollen carpets, shawls, carved wooden crafts and leather items is the main activity at Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre. The Pagoda showcases four golden statues of Lord Buddha carved out on the wall. It stands as a sacred symbol of spirituality, brotherhood and peace. The view from the Pagoda’s top is quite awe-aspiring. Darjeeling Sightseeing By Car: There are several taxis available at taxi stands around the main town area that provide services for Darjeeling Sightseeing. The private taxis and travel agents sell various tour packages such as the 7-point package that includes seven places to visit such as the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute/Zoo, Cable Car, Peace Pagoda, etc. and takes about 5 hours to complete the tour. Point-to-point dedicated taxi rides start at Rs. 150 for even short distances. The most economical way is to board a shared taxi that charges Rs. 10 for short distance rides and Rs. 20 for longer distances. During the season, these shared taxis also operate for few select local sightseeing tours like 3-point tour in Darjeeling and few other local tours.
